There is a trending expensive hotel in Uganda that has been on the minds of Ugandans and they have been talking about it all over social media.
Some people have criticised it but the others are happy with it saying it gives them the best services and they are happy with it.
Although it is expensive, the praises it is getting are much better and even those making little money are saving it to go and enjoy it.
Their rooms are also so much beyond people’s budgets but those that afford it say they are literally very happy with everything.
When the twin towers of the Kampala Marriott rose over Nsambya, a lot of people assumed the building belonged to the big American company whose name is on the sign. It doesn’t. The owner is a Ugandan businessman, Ponsiano Ngabirano, the man behind Capital Shoppers supermarkets.

Think of it like a franchise. A local person builds the shop, buys the land, and pays for the construction. The big brand then lends its name, its booking system, and its way of running things. The money from guests mostly stays with the owner.
Marriott International gets a fee for the brand and the management, but it does not own the walls.
Ngabirano started small, a grocery in Nakasero, and grew into one of Kampala’s best-known retail names. The hotel is his biggest leap yet: 181 rooms plus 96 executive apartments, built with his wife Eva and partly backed by NSSF, which holds about thirty percent.
President Museveni opened it on the 27th of August, and it already employs around 400 people.
