Makerere University Student leaders led by the guild president Mutatina Travis Muhwezi is seeking for increased daily allowance from UGX 4K to 10k.
They said that they are tired of sleeping hungry everyday yet they work very hard but have nothing to eat all the time.
The leaders cried out to the speaker of parliament Jacob Oboth Oboth requesting him to plead with the parliament and President Museveni on their behalf.
Makerere University is one of the biggest universities in Africa and very high performing. With this it is expected for leaders to be treated differently and nicely but unfortunately that is not the truth.
With this economy, the 4k they give to the leaders is too small for them to even have one meal a day yet they are supposed to have atleast three meals and look differently from the ordinary students.

“At least give us Shs 10,000.” Makerere University student leaders have asked the Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oboth Oboth, to increase their daily welfare allowance from Shs 4,500, saying they are tired of going to bed hungry” – Mutatina Travis Muhwezi, 92nd Makerere University Guild Speaker.
It should be noted that most higher institutions give their leaders good allowance so that they can be able to work harder without corruption
